Partnership Spotlight!
In partnership with The Wallflower Project, led by muralist Cidney Oleniacz, L.O.C.A.L. Adventures brings a unique teen-led mural program to Richmond youth. Over 10–12 weeks, young people work alongside professional artists and community partners through the entire mural-making process—from exploring the history of place and identifying shared values to concept development, design, project planning, painting, and completion.
More than just an art program…
The Wallflower Project provides sustained mentorship, paid hands-on experience, and pathways into creative careers. Teens build practical artistic and project-management skills while strengthening communication, collaboration, problem-solving, leadership, confidence, and resilience. They also connect with local artists, creative professionals, cultural institutions, and community resources that expand what they can imagine for their futures.
Wallflower is rooted in the belief that young people should have the opportunity to shape the places they call home, tell the stories they believe are worth seeing, and leave a lasting public expression.

Mindful Art & Media a L.O.C.A.L. Adventures Series
In Mindful Art and Media, students explore healthy digital habits through creative storytelling, media projects, workshops, and games. They’ll build media skills, develop self-expression, and learn to navigate our digital world mindfully while sharing their stories authentically.

Cidney “Birdie” Oleniacz (she/her)
Cidney is a Richmond artist and arts educator dedicated to helping students explore their relationship with nature and themselves through creative expression. She has led several community mural projects throughout the Richmond Park System.
Cidney is our lead artist educator, developing curriculum for Mindful Art + Media and supporting program coordination.
